The Guise of the Deceiver is a face-slot item that any class can wear, and its real draw is the click effect. Right-click it from your inventory and you take on a dark elf illusion, which works no matter what race or class you actually are. That single click is why the mask has been chased since the earliest days of Norrath.
One point of confusion worth clearing up: the item text lists Rogue and Bard, but that is not a usage restriction on the click. Any class can equip the Guise and click the illusion from inventory, which is exactly why it is so widely coveted rather than a niche rogue piece. In Legends it replaced the old Mask of Deception in a recent patch, so if you are following an older classic guide, this is the item those references now point to.
An illusion is not just cosmetic. A dark elf illusion shifts how NPCs read your faction, which can open dark-elf-friendly vendors and quest-givers that would otherwise refuse or attack you, and it lets you move through areas that hate your true race. The +13 charisma is a real bonus on top for any trio leaning on charm or faction, and 4 AC plus a magic save on a slot that is often empty is free value. For most players though, the honest answer is simpler: the illusion looks great and the mask is a status piece. That demand is steady, which is what makes it worth the clears.
The Guise drops from the Ghoul Assassin, a rare named undead froglok that spawns at the top of the tower on the Dead Side of Lower Guk. Its spawn point sits at loc (623, -757). It is a single named rather than a boss, so you do not need a raid or heavy burst, you clear your way up the tower and take it.
The Dead Side frogloks are undead, so farming them costs you no froglok faction. You can grind the whole approach to the Assassin, kill everything in your path, and never worry about locking yourself out of the Live Side or Innothule later. That is the opposite of the Live Side under the Froglok King, where every kill dents your standing.
Lower Guk is the level 30 to 50 lower half of the Guk dungeon in Antonica, reached down through Upper Guk, which has multiple entrances into the lower zone. Once inside, you are aiming for the Dead Side, the undead half of the dungeon under the Ghoul Lord. Work toward the tower and climb it. The Assassin waits at the top.
A useful landmark on the way up: a ghoul supplier shares the tower room, spawning nearby at roughly (636, -778). When you see the supplier, you are in the right room and the Assassin's spot is right above you.
This is a clear-and-push crawl, not a burn. The climb is the real threat, because undead can stack up behind you as you push toward the top, so pull deliberately and do not let adds pile in the stairwell. A geared trio with steady healing handles the Assassin itself without trouble once the room is clear.
Lower Guk is a Dungeon Crawl, so the Assassin is a rare creature that shows on your map, there is no placeholder and nothing respawns. You clear your way up the tower, take the Assassin, and the kill counts toward completing the crawl for its Bonus Chest and your instance refund. The instance is your own, so no one can hold the tower against you, and to chase another Guise you simply re-run the crawl.
The tower is one stop on the richest loot side in Antonica, so a Guise clear pairs naturally with the other Dead Side targets, all undead, all faction-free:
